Cambridge

Cambridge is a University town about 50 miles north of London, and is one of the most prestigious Universities in the world. A very historic town the centre is picturesque and contains many old buildings in there original conditions. During the 1970s and ‘80s the city grew exponentially due to council estates that were built to take in overflow from London. A large number of technology and science parks have cropped up over the last few years, so many in fact that the place has been dubbed Silicon Fen. The University buildings are a spectacle to behold, some having been there as early as the 13th century, (when a group of Oxford students fled Oxford due to the towns folk). There are a number of museums and ghost walks that are all very worthy of your attention.

Cambridge is a very flat area and because of this about 25% of people who live there cycle to work, some roads have even been especially adapted for cyclists, having one lane for cars and one for bikes. With the looming inevitability of global warming it’s nice to know that there’s somewhere doing there bit!!.

Every year oxford and Cambridge have a boat race on the river, which has been a tradition for hundreds of years. Also strawberry fare is held on Cambridge common every year and is a fantastic weekend which offers locally grown produce (mainly strawberries), craft stalls, drum workshops, kids activities and a wide variety of local and national bands, artists and groups.
